- Reception of participants arriving on April 13TH in Arles.

Saturday 14th April

-10 :00 am : reception at CCL’s premises by Bruno Marty and Greta Schetting.

-3 :00-4 :30 pm : Route 1 with Greta Schetting : overall visit of Arles, locations.

Sunday 15th April (according to the number of participants already arived this activity may be postponed to the following day)

TUESDAY APRIL 17th, ROUTE 3 : ARLES THROUGH THE LITTERATURE FROM XVIIth TO XIXth CENTURY.

-Theater : Discovering of the statue of the Venus of Arles on June 6, 1651, then offered to Louis XIV in 1684 to decorate the castle of Versailles: birth of the myth of the beauty of the women of Arles, topic taken again by the Félibrige and glorified by the poet Theodore Aubanel on his poem : La Vénus d’Arles-Mairie : moulding of Venus of Arles in the town hall of Arles (original in The Louvre)

SATURDAY APRIL 14th, ROUTE 1 :

ARLES : TOPOGRAPHY AND LANDMARKS

This road is a first approach of the topography of the city, it will enable you to be directed in the various districts and streets and to recognize quitckly the main monuments.

The city was originally built on a little rock hill situated on the south part of a curve of the Rhône river, on the north side a little suburb named Trinquetaille is known since Antiquity. A bridge, the “pont de Trinquetaille”, connects the two parts of the city.
